Propagator Tent – October 2019
At the beginning of October 2019 we purchased a Propagator Tent to help extend the growing season and help us better utilise the greenhouse and polytunnel. We use it to start our seeds off and it is also somewhere to nurse cuttings when they come out of our X-Stream Aeroponic Propagator before they go into the greenhouse or polytunnel.
It was easy to put together and provides us with ample space to propagate lots of seeds in one go. We also purchased lights. White and coloured lights are available.

We plan to run it for most of the year. Here are some examples of what we have done in it so far.
One of the first things we started off were some lupins in the propagator. We used lights but no additional heat other than the heat given off by the lights. Just under two weeks later the seeds were developing well.

Four days later they were putting on their second leaves.

Aeroponics and Growing On
We also put in some of the cuttings we had been propagating in the X-Stream Aeroponic Propagator which included some rose and hydrangea cuttings. We left them here for a few weeks before we moved them into the greenhouse to overwinter.

Kniphofia seeds (Red Hot Pokers) sowed. After about a month they looked like the photograph below.

The red hot pokers relocate to a heated greenhouse after three weeks. Later they will be potted on, before planting.

The grow tents come in different sizes to suit your requirements and budget. So far we have found we use it a lot and it is certainly helping us start flowers and vegetables off much earlier in the growing season.
