SUMMARY:Make a bag in a day
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n\n\n\nThis event is for basic to intermediate machine sewers who want to have a go at making their own vinyl bags. \n\n\n\nAll hardware and materials needed to complete the bag pattern are included in the cost of this course. \n\n\n\nThe course fee also covers the cost of the pattern which will be available to you to use to make further bags at home. \n\n\n\nWe have a selection of vintage Singer hand crank and treadle sewing machines\, as well as vintage and modern electric sewing machines for you to choose from on the day or you can bring your own as long as it is less than 12 months old or has been recently PAT tested. We also have a selection of industrial sewing machines but are unlikely to use them for this course. \n\n\n\nTea\, Coffee\, Squash and Biscuits will be provided. Please bring your own lunch as that will not be provided. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLesson 1 – Choosing your vinyl\, fabrics and fastenings.\n\n\n\nWhen you arrive you have the opportunity to select the vinyl\, hardware\, zips\, lining and thread you want to use for your bag. \n\n\n\nA selection of different vinyl bag outers will already have been cut out\, reinforced and marked for you to choose from on the day. A selection of bag inners will also have been cut out\, interfaced and marked for you to choose from. \n\n\n\nThe bag pieces\, zip colours\, bag hardware finishes and threads will depend on the availability on the day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLesson 2 – Using Templates to mark your pieces and sewing lines.\n\n\n\nAlthough you will have chosen pre-prepared pieces to help ensure you are able to complete your bag on the day we will run through how using MDF templates can make the cutting out and marking of pattern pieces easier. \n\n\n\nOur templates include suggested stitching lines that you can mark on the lining and Decovil to help you when you come to sew up your bag. \n\n\n\nYou will have the opportunity to have a go at marking out and cutting pattern pieces using our MDF templates. These templates can be purchased for an additional fee after the course if required. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nLesson 3 – Using a heat press to interface or reinforce your pattern pieces.\n\n\n\nWhilst Decovil or Interfacing can be ironed on using a heat press will help keep them bonded to your vinyl or lining. \n\n\n\nDuring this lesson we will have a go at fusing a single vinyl pattern piece to Decovil and a single material piece to white or black interfacing. \n\n\n\nYour bag pattern pieces will have already been prepared to this stage prior to you joining the course. \n\n\n\n\n\nLesson 4 – Reading your pattern and sewing your lining\, outer bag and straps.\n\n\n\nDuring this lesson you will join your pattern pieces including: \n\n\n\n\nAttaching any zips\n\n\n\nAdding any required hardware\n\n\n\n\nWe will supply wonder clips for you to use on the day to help you fix your bag together before sewing it. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nYou will also have access to our Green Machine Hand Presses and accessories to punch holes where required attach any hardware. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLesson 5 – Birthing your bag\n\n\n\nIn this lesson we will look at the process of inserting the outside of your bag into the lining of your bag\, attaching them together\, then pulling the outside of your bag through the inside of your bag. \n\n\n\n\nLesson 6 – Topstitching your bag\n\n\n\nOnce you have birthed your bag we will look at the process of making sure your joints are as flat as you can get them. Once you have done this you are ready to top-stitch the top edge of your bag. \n\n\n\n\nLesson 7 – Making your bag strap\n\n\n\nWhen sewing bag straps we use a pasta roller to ensure the straps are neatly pressed. This makes the sewing of straps easier and provides a nicer finish. \n\n\n\nAgain we will use one of our Green Machine Hand Presses to attach any rivets or eyelets to your straps. \n\n\n\nPre – Requisites\n\n\n\nSome sewing experience. Ability to use an electric or hand crank sewing machine. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nGallery\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuilted Bags and Totes – Maker Centre Library \n\n\n\nBeautiful Beaded Bags – Maker Centre Library \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Download QR

SUMMARY:Creating Merchandise for your Small Business
DESCRIPTION:Course Outline\n\n\n\nThis event is for small business owners who would like to increase peoples awareness of their business by building their own brand and producing their own merchandise. \n\n\n\nDuring the day we will provide you with a small number of mugs\, t-shirts and other merchandise for you to practice creating your brand image. Additional items can be purchased from us at very competitive prices. \n\n\n\nTea\, Coffee\, Squash and Biscuits will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. \n\n\n\nPre-Requisites\n\n\n\nIt is assumed you already have a company logo in a JPEG\, PNG or SVG format. This course is not about designing you logo but more about taking that logo and looking at creating merchandise that builds on your small business brand. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDye Sublimation\n\n\n\nDye Sublimation is a process where a digital image is printed onto dye sublimation paper. On heating at high temperature the ink turns to a gas which is then sublimated onto polyester or polyester resin coated products. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExamples of items that can be typically dye sublimated include T-Shirts\, Sweat Shirts\, Coffee Mugs\, Drinks Bottles\, Mouse Mats\, Clipboards\, Scarves\, Ties\, Bags and Sports Clothing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA dye sublimation printer uses the C(Cyan)M(Magenta)Y(Yellow)K(Black) color model. Because it does not use the color white dye sublimation is best done on light colours. \n\n\n\nDirect to Film (DTF)\n\n\n\nDirect to Film is often shorted to DTF which is a process where a special inkjet printer prints onto DTF film. A white layer is sometimes added followed my a hot melt powder. The film is then dried before the designs can be cut out and heat pressed onto fabric. As this process allows for the printing of white ink it can be used on many fabrics including cotton\, polyester or cotton/polyester mixes and can be used to produce images on dark fabric. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the moment we do not do our DTF printing inhouse\, instead we use a specialist supplier of gang sheets. A gang sheet is a large sheet usually one metre long. It’s width can vary from supplier to supplier but is often half a metre or more wide. We use a gang sheet template to lay out all our images in the most space saving way we can. \n\n\n\nDuring the day we will show you how to create/modify artwork and put it on a gang sheet to be printed externally onto film. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorking with a Heat Press and Mug Press\n\n\n\nA Heat Press can be used with Dye Sublimation and with Direct to Film (DTF) to adhere your artwork to your clothing or fabric. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Mug Press is used to Dye Sublimate your artwork to mugs or drink bottles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have a selection of elements available with our tumbler/mug press which allows you to dye sublimate a variety of mug and drink bottle sizes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUVDTF Transfers (Ultraviolet Direct to Film):\n\n\n\nUVDTF is similar to DTF but it uses Ultraviolet light to cure the ink onto the film. \n\n\n\nUV DTF printing is typically used on glass\, mirrors\, metal and other hard surfaces. Unlike DTF the transfers do not need a heat press to adhere it to the surface they are being applied to. \n\n\n\nEmbroidery and Embroidery Patches\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n Download QR
