Mason Bees

Mason Bees arrival – April 2021

We have some new arrivals in the form of 40 Mason bee cocoons just waiting to hatch .

We have decided to take part in the mason bee guardian program run by www.masonbees.co.uk . You purchase a lodge and a set of cocoons and then if/once they have nested you return the cocoons to the guardian program if you want to. They will clean and store them and return a new batch next year thus keeping the genetic diversity up.

The addition of Mason Bees should be great for pollination. I have read that solitary bees are more helpful with the pollination process than honey bees. Hopefully this will assist our grow your own garden project.
